Coding x Color is an interactive mural project that blends technology, art, and community engagement. Created in collaboration with Monterey Makers and science illustrator Emily Underwood, the mural showcases Monterey Bay’s marine life through a combination of traditional painting and digital particle animation. Motion sensors allow visitors to activate schools of sardines, changing their color and movement, creating a dynamic, ever-evolving experience. Community members collaborated in the mural’s creation, contributing to a playful, immersive, and visually spectacular artwork that celebrates chance encounters, creativity, and the natural world.
