Sky Project

Project type

Conceptual Photography, Process-Based Painting

Date

2011–2013

Location

Japan and California, U.S.A.

Sky Project began as a quiet act of remembrance following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Feeling distant and powerless, the artist photographed the sky as a shared, ever-present horizon connecting places and people. The project later expanded into a video and paintings created using salt and ocean water in California, allowing natural forces to shape the work. Rather than documenting destruction, Sky Project reflects on memory, distance, and the passage of time, marking the beginning of an ongoing inquiry into connection across place.
